I’ve been testing my blood sugar the past few days with my new Contour NEXT glucose meter.

Here are my results.

Notice that my blood glucose after breakfast is always lower than my fasting level.

DATE Fasting Blood Sugar After Breakfast

Oct 4 4.8  (86 mg/dL) 4.4   (79 mg/dL)
Oct 5 4.8  (86 mg/dL) 4.7   (85 mg/dL)
Oct 6 5.4*(97 mg/dL) 5.1   (92 mg/dL)
Oct 7 4.9  (88 mg/dL) 4.6   (83 mg/dL)
Oct 8 5.1  (92 mg/dL) 3.9   (70 mg/dL)

Is this a "Dawn Phenomenon" effect, where my fasting levels are elevated from morning cortisol?

By the way, my breakfast is low carb, under 15 net grams for sure, even if it includes a bit of fruit.

*NOTE: Higher fasting value this day was after a big Chinese meal the night before.

I honestly don’t understand your numbers. I have noticed something similar. My fasting glucose used to be 100-85, after meal in ghost lower...

My problem is that the weight is not going down.... :((

Either way you look at it Malcolm those numbers look good to me. I had to get out the conversion chart but your highest reading of 5.4 is a 98 in flat-lander, and that seems pretty dang good to me! 3.9 wow that is 70 mg/dl...excellent

Rodney D:

I appreciate your comment and you reminded me to put my results in U.S. units (mg/dL) on my chart above.

Right: The differences are easily within the margin of error for glucose meters.
So nearly all the values are excellent and no patterns can be discerned.
