Hi:  I’ve been on "sabbatical" from the forum for a few years.  I see some of the same brilliant minds are still at it!  Yes, I am trying to ingratiate myself, but I think it is true (-:  Very well studied and wise experts hang out here.

I have a question which I think I missed the understanding of in the years I was a member of "Track Your Plaque".

Not unusual, but my calcium scores are increasing since I’ve been tracking since 2007 with about four scans.

For the first five years, I had increases of about 6% per year.  For the next three years, 1%.  For the last two years, 10% per year.

I was told by the clinic that if the growth is less than 15% a year, you are doing great, with little chance for an "event", and that the soft plaque that is was not seen on the scans is hardening.

Questions:  How does "doing great" apply if you want to reduce your plaque score?  Why is the soft plaque hardening more than in the past?  Using one contributing factor, does increased inflammation cause more soft plaque to be produced and/or cause the increase in calcium score?  Can you reduce your soft plaque and resultant hardening percentage by adhering to the basic TYP program?

Is this too basic a question?  If anyone wants to refer me to some articles on the site which addresses this, I can review.
