I recently got a few extra blood tests (on June 20, 2018)

 

I think I still have at least 3 blood markers that suggest potential problems.

 

But first, the good news:

Vitamin D = 73 ng/mL (I take 3000 iu vitamin D with K2 daily)

Fasting Insulin = 3.3 uIU/mL (my best ever)

HbA1c = 5.3 (typical for me)

hsCRP = 1.4 (a bit higher than usual for me but fairly good)

 

Next, three problem areas:

1) Anyone here get their Oxidized LDL checked? All the experts say cholesterol is not a problem unless it’s oxidized. So why isn’t everyone getting tested for it? - besides the fact it’s an expensive test.

The reference range is under 45 U/L.

I came in at 66 and it was flagged as high. Bummer!

 

2) How about the liver enzyme GGT?  It apparently correlates much more closely with cardiovascular disease than high cholesterol.

The reference range is 9 - 64 U/L.

But that’s far too lenient. The optimum value for a man is under 20.

My latest value was 69, flagged as high. Not happy about that.

 

3) My SpectraCell test from April 2018 regarding omega fatty acids was not great either. Too much omega-6 versus omega-3.

 

To sum it up, I feel I have 3 potential cardio risk factors just based on these tests alone.

 

To lower oxidized LDL I plan to back off my overall fat consumption. The goal would be to lower my cholesterol and LDL. The idea is less cholesterol = less available to get oxidized. In 2013, when my cholesterol was lower, my oxidized LDL was 49 (almost in the normal range). I’ll be consuming some pure pomegranate juice each day as that’s supposed to help as well.

 

My high GGT could be from too much toxin exposure, or too much fructose/carbs, or possibly too much fat. I’ll be trying a new "liver support" supplement that includes NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) and ALA (Alpha-Lipoic acid) and other stuff.

 

To improve my omega-3 ratio I plan to reduce high omega-6 foods, such as my favorite: dark chicken meat with the skin on. Instead, I’ll eat white meat with no skin. I’ll reduce my red meat and overall protein consumption as well. And I’m starting a fish oil supplement (although not as much as Dr. Davis recommends).

 

If anyone has other ideas please chime in.
