Posted: 8/25/2010 8:22:25 AM   HH, would it be possible to set the "insert/edit image" function of the forum editor to limit the size of an image to something like 800 pixels? Every so often, someone will post a very wide image and make a thread unreadable. For example, if you post an image that is 3000 pixels wide, like the one below, text without carriage returns is stretched out so far as to require scrolling back and forth to read. This should show what I mean by a very wide image making the text unreadable by stretching the thread width to accommodate the image. It would be much better if the forum editor could somehow be limited to a reasonable width, say 600-800 pixels, because we have overly wide images posted by people who don't know how to limit the width and that can render the whole thread unreadable. Yes, you can shrink the width of the thread in your browser, but with very wide images, this results in the text being too small to read without a magnifying glass, and thus anyone can make any thread unreadable just by posting a very large image. To avoid this, it would help if there is some way to crop or shrink or otherwise limit the width of posted images to a size that the average browser on the average computer scren can handle. Just thought I would suggest this because it is a problem that happens fairly often. People who haven't been here very long don't understand how to limit the width of an image. BTW, is there a tutorial on how to use the forum editor around here somewhere? That would be a big help also, because some of the functions aren't very intuitive. One other comment. The way this forum is laid out, the poster's name and avatar shrinks the space available for posted images by at least 100 pixels, maybe 200. I see other message boards that put the name, date, and avatar in a horizontal pane that leaves the whole width of the screen available for posting text and images. Would it be possible to convert this board to do that? I try to limit all images to 600-700 pixels, but with some images, it's hard to do that and still have a readable image. Just a suggestion for the future. However, the need to prevent wide images from destroying a thread is much more immediate, if you could make that happen it would be a big help.
