After a successful batch made with 100% Cranberry juice my blood sugar jumped to 125 1 hour after only 1/4 cup. Has anyone else experienced this? Very worrisome as I am trying to avoid the need for insulin.

My first batch of cider is bubbling away. It will be finished tomorrow. There is quite a bit of sediment at the bottom. Do I need to strain the cider?

No need to strain, lfr. The sediment tends to stay put as you pour the cider. You know this by now, but thought I’d mention it for someone looking at this conversation in the future.

Alas, my apple cider is also pasteurized and filtered, and the recipe still works great. Use apple cider, not apple juice. The little guys just want the sugar, of which there is plenty. The finished cider is delicious!

I don’t believe that pasteurization is a problem. Filtering removes some of the desirable nutrients, however, such as pectin.
Ideally, you get the cloudy apple cider, not the clear juice.

I have been using for the last week or so, but it really shoots up my blood glucose, in spite of long fermentation.
It also continues to ferment in the fridge to my surprise.

I have a fermented applesauce in my frig that is 3 weeks old. I’ll probably finish it today. It gets more fermented with time but I haven’t seen anything get moldy or spoil in anyway. I like the taste as it ages.

Mine is sitting in the fridge and still fermenting. I can tell by the fact that the plastic bottle keeps expanding. I think I have alcohol now so will have to toss it.

I mostly ferment applesauce rather than juice. That said, I’ve found that adding the last few tablespoons to a new jar of applesauce has stronger fermenting power than a Florastor tablet. This could save buying more Florastor.

Thanks to both. He is taking the S boulardi supplement already daily + doing the SIBO yogurt and the Mood yogurt so I think I will stick with that for now. He seems to be making some progress with clearer skin and less irritability.

If you are able to find apple cider in 1 qt plastic containers, now is the time of the year to stock up. Pour out a little (1/2 cup) to allow for expansion and freeze the rest. Now I’ll have a steady supply of sparkling juice all winter long!

Morning,
Making my 1st batch of the cider for husband after bypass surgery. Is it ok to still consume the SIBO yogurt while drinking 1/4 cup of the cider? I was thinking cider in am yogurt in pm.
Thanks

I followed the directions of 1 Florastor Capsule to 1/2 gallon of cider.
Just wondering how long we can keep drawing 1/4 cup day for Mike from it before it’s no longer safe to consume.
Thanks!!

Can this be made in the luvele yogurt maker with the silicon cap on top without having to burp it since the silicone lid is so loose already? Or is it better to use a mason jar with an airlock lid?
