I heard in a podcast if LPS passes through mucous it loses its inflammatory potential. It is only a problem when it contacts epithelium (cell linings) directly.

I believe that is why Akkermansia Muciniphila is hugely anti-inflammatory: produces mucus as a shield against LPS of other bugs.

And I guess that is why SIBO is so nasty: no source of mucus production in small intestine.
