Here’s a little about me.
1/28/2018 – Diagnosed T2DM, A1c 7.4. – age 53
~2/12 - Prescribed Metformin
~2/14 -Started a strict ketogenic diet. Eased into it the first few weeks at 15g total carbs/meal. Was driven by my BG numbers and dropped to < 20g total carbs per day. No sugar substitutes, no almond or coconut flour, whole food keto. Started exercising at least 30 minutes/day.
~ 2/20 my blood sugar was in control and I discontinued Metformin
5/1/2018 A1c 4.9, weight 161
8/2018 – weight 143, and have remained there .
Eat a slightly looser keto diet. Total carbs can be 50 – 80g of the same composition as at the beginning. A1c has not been higher than 5.1 since the initial drop.
54 y/o female; Height: 5’ 6.5”; Weight 143; A1c 5.0
11/2019 - I had a CAC scan done with the following results
LAD – 60, which put me in the 80th percentile
2/2020 – started feeling angina, although I didn’t identify it as that. I had a total hip replacement 1/28/20 and though the slight discomfort in my chest with light exercise was due to being out of shape. Couldn’t identify if it was heart or lungs. I pretty much ignored it until early November despite it being significantly worse at times. Sometimes at a casual walk, I would consider sitting on the curb or turning around to go home. Generally if I continued on, the pain would resolve in ~30 minutes.
11/3/2020 – sharp pain in my chest while sitting at my desk at night – resolved in a couple of minutes. EKG and echocardiogram were unremarkable the next day when I went to the doc. Stress test the following day, then nuclear test at which time they admitted me. EKG traces had them concerned enough for that, and then view of images showed blockage.
11/17/2020- Heart Cath. Showed complete blockage in my LAD. Too significant for them to do anything at that time.
11/23/2020 – went for another CAC scan so I could see what was going on before someone modified my heart. Results: LAD 133 (from 60)
LCX 3 (from 0)
RCA 6 (from 0)
Total 142 (from 60) – now the 90th percentile.
I was completely shocked by these results. I thought I was doing all the right things.
Between the first scan and the second scan, in addition to the total hip replacement, I had an infected molar, and laser surgery was performed to try to clean it out. The infection remained, and in the interest of getting rid of the infection to keep my heart happy, I had the tooth pulled. I ended up with a hard nodule infection in my low jaw that persisted for months and many rounds of various antibiotics. It’s better now. Do you think my results for the 2nd CAC scan are due to the infection I fought for so long?
I have been supplementing with the attached (in my reply) spreadsheet, since the spring of 2018. The prescriptions at the bottom (Lipitor and Toprol and baby aspirin) have been added as of last week. I was resistant to the Statin, but have started to think that maybe since I’m at the stage I’m at, it’s probably warranted.
I have not had high blood pressure.
I would love to get your opinion about how I got here, and what you might recommend going further. I suspect there will need to be some sort of intervention in my heart to relieve the angina.
Thank you in advance!
