I’d be grateful for an explanation of exactly what arteries like the LAD and RCA do once there’s been surgery to bypass them. Is there still blood flow in these ’original’ vessels, and if so what happens if there’s a rupture? In theory such a rupture with a potential 100% blockage would no longer result in a heart attack, because the new bypass graft is keeping blood flowing to the heart. Is that correct?

Obviously the UIC protocol is important for keeping the ’new’ artery grafts healthy, but is it still important to keep the old arteries as plaque free as possible?

Also, is it worth having ongoing CT scans after a bypass, and if so would the aim be to measure the old or new arteries, or both? I have a bypass operation coming up, and intend to continue with the protocol afterwards, but if CT scans are problematic in those circumstances, what are the best ways to monitor cardio health in the future?
