Joined this site after reading Wheat belly book. Really need help figuring out what to do about my High insulin and HSCRP and unable to lose weight (40 pounds)
What prompted it was 3 years ago after struggling with no ability to lose weight despite exercise ( jogged 5 miles a day treadmill) and relatively good diet ( or so I thought) I found a functional medicine doc. She ran huge amounts of tests and saw I was low in vitamin d and all the b vitamins basically and I have the mthfr mutations. I also came back highly sensitive to gluten and fodmaps and had mild hashimotos. Also I have SIBO ( likely caused by nexium). Good news was no immune system issues and Lp(a)was perfect. Cholesterol was moderately high and Hdl was low around 35.I also was and still am on nexium for gerd from a moderately sized hiatal hernia that was causing esophogitis.
She put me on meythl b vitamins and methyl folic acid and 6.25 mgs of iodine for a bit and omegas and Gla and vitamin d ,magnesium 1000 mgs a day and 2000 mgs vitamin c daily 1500 mgs a day if niacin, A supplement called oncoplex which is just broccoli extract but in a form that would take like a pound of regular broccoli to get the same benefits. A supplement called D hist and niacin 1500 mgs a day and pantethine daily. I also take a liver cleanser called Adva clear.Take Sbi protect which is IGG colostrum for the SIBO along with RESTORE . Tried various other methods before that of inflammacore and glutasheild. Tried to wean of the nexium but it was excruciating. Says we will get back to that.
I began walking in sun daily and stopped all dairy, gluten, rice, corn, and white potato and tomato as those were causing me issues as well .( nightshades) as well as onions and garlic and beans and all nuts . I got my vitamin d up rather quickly to around 70 and now its 80. I raised my B to actually being too high. I already barely ate out and never ate fast food even before this all began. I haven’t had soda since I was a kid ( 47 now) and I drink only water or unsweetened black tea or unsweet green tea. Have for years and years. Maybe a decaf coffee with unsweetened coconut milk. I buy everything I can organic and have for 15 years or so. I only buy grass fed and finished meat.
I did that new grain and dairy free diet almost perfectly for last three years. I would slip and have some organic home popped popcorn made with coconut oil( no butter) as it is my fav food. But Im talking maybe 1 time a month. Basically ate paleo with a treat of a starbucks drink here or there ( like a tall refresher made with coconut milk (16 grams sugar) or some popcorn like I said. I bought a standup desk with treadmill since I work from home and I walk it daily, for hours.I also take a morning walk for 20 min with my dogs.I bought a home gym but my hernia got too bad with trying to lift weights . I did some cycling as well for awhile and a stair climber.
My cholesterol total is under 200 now at 190 ,HDl got up to 47 as of last month. The good fluffy particles are in the moderate zone and small are moderate. close to being low. I need to push them a little further. Lpa is great, trigs are 130 now, but were as low as 57, apoliprotien b is 101 lp(a) is <10 ,lp pla2 is 102 which is all in the good range. My homocystene is 7. My blood pressure is always on low to normal side. I get about 7 hours sleep a night although I do have trouble going to sleep until around 2 -3 am. I use Restore supplement to try and heal my gut along with colostrum pills called SBI protect. I did two months of another gut healing protocol with berberine and 2 months of a shake called glutasheild. Still even when i just eat some grilled chicken and broccoli I bloat like im 9 months pregnant and my heart races to 120 plus. I also had a CAC done when I was 46 because Dr kept trying to put me on statins because of cholesterol and family history. It was 0. My last A1c was 5.6 Apoe says im a 2/4
Now here is my question, through all of this I keep watching my weight not budge at all. I lost zero weight cutting out all carbs except sweet potato. All dairy ect. Also my insulin is 38!!! I’ve watched is go up from 18 to 38 over three years of eating mostly clean ( certainly better then the SAD diet ) and getting daily exercise. My Hscrp is also currently 9.2. It started at 5. I’ve never seen a decrease only an increase.
The last thing I’ve tried now is cutting absolutely all added sugar. But i wasn’t even having much to begin with .I’ve been off it for 2 months. Still not one pound lost .My friend stopped her soda habit and lost 15 pounds. She stopped her pint of ice cream a night and lost another 20 . What else can I do to lower my HSCRP and my insulin and lose weight ? I thought for sure cutting carbs and now all remaining sugar would help me lose weight and end the leaky gut issues. Basically my Dr says that I cant lose weight with insulin that high and I believe the high hscrp is from the sibo. And shes stumped as to why my Sibo isnt clearing up.
Both my parents died young from heart disease but both were diabetic,morbidly obese and smoked , no oral care , S.A.D. diet and didn’t exercise. All my family members have diabetes. My fasting sugar is around 110 and after meals is around 90. I’m tired of throwing more and more supplements at this. At one point I was swallowing 30 pills a day. HELP!!!! Any advice would be helpful or any tips from people facing similarities ....
