My Mg Serum was only 1.58 mg/dL in a labs normal ref. interval of 1.6-2.3.  However, the FDA reference interval is 1.8-3.6.  So my serum is definitely a bit low I think.

The reason I asked my doctor if I could test Mg is I have been having visual disturbances, and aura migraines, which I never in my life had before (I’m 48).

I asked him for Mg RBC but he ordered serum instead.

As you can see back in 2016 my serum was higher.  Seems like my body is perhaps struggling to keep the minimum amount in blood to function.  Along with these new migraines I’ve gotten, I’ve also had some intermittent arrhythmia.   I got my first aura migraine on Nov 16, 2019.. during a spell of severe dehydration due to taking a diuretic along with ketogenic diet -- they don’t mix well at all.   I am thinking perhaps the dehydration depleted my Mg even more.  I’ve read Mg deficiency can cause migraines.  (Again, I never really had problem with migraines in the past, certainly not the scary aura type either.)

My question is, since the serum is obviously too low, should I even bother at this point forking out $49 for Mg RBC blood test?  I am sure insurance won’t cover it -- Medicare; unless there are some magic diagnostic codes saying I am deficient, which I am.

Should I just continue to take the Mg Water (taking about 12 oz per day right now), and test Mg RBC in like 4 months?

I’ve only done the Mg Water a few weeks over the past 2 years, but am doing it every day religiously after the results of this last blood test.

Glaucoma runs in the family.  It was tested recently, like twice recently and is good.  I also had my eyes dilated twice recently and all was good inside.. retinas look like I’ve never had diabetes.
