I have two questions about yogurt.

1)  How many times can you start a new batch of yogurt with "starter" from your last batch?  Is there any way to tell that the l. reuteri is still alive and kicking?

2) I did my first batch with crushed tablets in the instapot with no issues and created 3 additional batches from that in a yogurt maker that I purchased with no issues.

My second attempt at starting a batch with the tablets was done in the yogurt maker and resulted in curdling and separation (in two separate attempts).  Any suggestions?  Do the small containers in the yogurt maker cause the yogurt in the container to heat up too much (even though the machine is set to 105 degrees?  Should I do the tablet batches in the IP or turn the temperature down even further on the yogurt machine?

Any help would be appreciated!
