It’s now been about six months since I found that a coronary artery calcium score of 489 rudely grabbed my attention. That event brought me here as I started to adopt many new lifestyle habits to address this vital health issue.

I have lost about 10 pounds since then and I now fit comfortably in waist-size 32 inch pants, down from decades at size 34. I’ve taken myself off my blood pressure med and my weekly blood pressure average hovers around 120/80. I continue to walk about four miles every day.

My naturopath recommended that I take one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar when I experience heart burn/Gerd symptoms. That seemed paradoxical to me but it worked wonderfully well. I stopped taking Nexium and I’m only using the apple cider vinegar a few times per week.

I was diagnosed with gastroparesis back in 2012. My main symptoms were diarrhea, some constipation, and episodic loss of bowel control. This condition seriously undermined my well-being. My naturopath recommended that I eat vegetable with every meal and I adopted that change. She also prescribed low-dose Naltrexone (LDN, 4.5 mg/day). This drug has shown benefits for people with autoimmune disorders like tyoe 1 diabetes (I am T1D.) as well as people experiencing Chron’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

During the last two weeks my gastroparesis has gone into remission as my bowel habits have returned to my experience prior to 2012. I’m not sure if the vegetables in my diet or the LDN or some other factor explains this but I am grateful. I also adopted an almost daily meditation habit in the last several months. Meditation soothes the Vagus nerve, the nerve that connects the brain with the digestive organs.

Earlier this week, I received an A1c of 5.0%, the lowest in 35 years for me.

My total cholesterol, however, continues to soar. In the last two years it has ranged from 232-335 mg/dL, with the 335 mg/dL as my latest number. My triglycerides are trending down over the last six months from 138 mg/dl down to 106 to 97. While I have cut out all grains and added sugars, I do still need to take glucose to treat hypoglycemia. I know the Undoctored protocol targets <= 60 mg/dL for triglycerides but I’m doing the best I can. I’ve refused to start on a statin.

My HDL has taken a healthy jump in this week’s report. The last two HDL number from six and three months ago measured 51 and 44 mg/dL. My new HDL number came in at 71 mg/dL. I started lifting weights a few months ago and that might be driving this improvement.

My LDL cholesterol at 245 mg/dL continues to raise the blood pressure of my doctors. I’ve learned to ignore this number and pay attention to more important blood markers.

I stopped using three sleep medications, amitriptyline, Unisom, and melatonin. In the last week, my sleep has finally settled into a pattern of sleeping 7.5 hours per night.

I intend to get another CAC score at the one-year anniversary of my 489 Agatston score. I’m hoping that the next score is flat or even regressed at that point.

I supplement with Omega-3, K2, D3, magnesium, probiotocs, and iron. I eat a high fat low carb diet and time limit my eating to between 11 am and 7 pm, thereby setting up a daily intermittent fast.

I welcome any comments or suggestions that anyone thinks I should consider.

This looks pretty good, T1, except for the lowish free T3. Recent weight loss can drop free T3 temporarily, as can SIBO.

The drop in reverse T3--a very good thing--may be due to following the Undoctored program.

You are doing great self work t1dtamer! The low iron you’ve chronically been plagued with has recently been connected to CoronaryHeartDisease. So moving the ferritin needle may also benefit your arteries.
