Recent evidence is suggesting that vitamin D can help reduce inflammation and heal your gut. This can lead to a healthier microbiota. These changes lead to improvement of digestive symptoms as seen in IBS.

A landmark study was published where half of a  group of IBS patients were given vitamin D3.The other half were given a placebo. The symptoms were tracked over the course of six months. Over the six-month intervention period, a significantly greater improvement in IBS symptoms such as abdominal pain and distention, flatulence, rumbling, and overall gastrointestinal symptoms was observed in the patients receiving vitamin D as compared to placebo. Bowel habits didn’t change.
