Adult humans are capable of synthesizing taurine from the essential amino acids methionine and cysteine, although they still may require a small amount of dietary intake. Vegetables grown on land do not contain taurine. Beef, chicken lamb, fish, crab meat and eggs are sources of taurine.

Taurine helps to move key nutrients, such as potassium, magnesium and calcium, in and out of  heart cells to improve its functioning. Potassium flow into cardiac muscle cells normalizes electrical excitability of cell membranes. Low levels of taurine have been found in patients who suffered a heart attack. Multiple daily doses of taurine improved cardiac function in patients suffering from a variety of chronic heart conditions, such as arrhythmia, congestive heart failure and heart attacks.

Taurine supplementation can increase secretion of nitric oxide, which dilates blood vessels and improves blood flow and delivery of oxygen to muscles.Taurine can lower blood cholesterol by improving gallbladder function which can then eliminate cholesterol through bile.Taurine is an antioxidant which protects the body from fee radical damage.Studies showed taurine may be beneficial for diabetic and liver cirrhosis patients.

Taurine promotes cardiovascular health, insulin sensitivity, electrolyte balance, hearing function, and immune modulation. In animal research, taurine protected against heart failure, reducing mortality by nearly 80%. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3788775

In animal models of hypertension, taurine supplementation lowers blood pressure by reducing the resistance to blood flow in the blood vessel walls and by minimizing nerve impulses in the brain that drive blood pressure up. Oral taurine supplementation has been found to reduce the arterial thickening and stiffness characteristic of atherosclerosis and  to restore arteries’ responses to beneficial endothelial nitric oxide.Animal research has shown that taurine supplementation can help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.Taurine plus magnesium can open up blood vessels and prevent migraines.

A study of patients needing coronary bypass surgery showed that consuming a liquid drink containing 3 grams of taurine, combined with 3 grams carnitine, 150 mg CoQ10, and basic multivitamin nutrients, reduced left-sided ventricular volume during the heart’s resting phase (diastole). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12075268 This is important since an increased left-ventricular diastolic volume is the single greatest predictor of death in patients requiring bypass or stent placements.

Taurine is useful in preventing and treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Disease states—including liver, kidney, or heart failure, diabetes, and cancer—can all cause a deficiency in taurine. Aging bodies often cannot internally produce an optimal amount of taurine, making supplementation vital.Supplementing with too much taurine can result in negative nitrogen balance leading to a decrease in metabolic deficiency and straining the kidneys.

Taurine ,magnesium and potassium have been beneficial in the treatment of mitral valve prolapse which is a common cause of a heart murmur caused by a "leaky" heart valve.

Yup.

Taurine, Magnesium, CoQ10.  A great combo.

One to Fourteen grams.  Usually taken in divided doses.  "Excess nitrogen load" will apply to "too much protein", not specifically to taurine.

Does anyone have a comment of "free" taurine versus l-taurine?
