Sugar and high fructose corn syrup act as wrinkle fertilizers when people consume these sweeteners. Glycation is the process by which sugars bind to amino acids in the bloodstream and become advanced glycation end (AGE) products. AGE products bind to collagen causing it to get tangled and twisted. This shows up as wrinkles, age spots and crepey skin. We try to avoid consumption of high fructose syrup and sugar. Alpha Lipoic Acid can stop glycation and prevent age spots.

Carotenoids can protect our skin from the damaging effects of excess sunshine. Astaxanthin is the most potent carotenoid and it traps and neutralizes damaging free radicals. Astaxanthin provides wrinkle reduction by internal supplementation and reduces hyperpigmentation (better known as age spots).

Other sources of carotenoids that protect our skin are eggs, spirulina, chlorella, dark green leafy vegetables and yellow-orange fruit and vegetables.
