Here's food for thought:

If vitamin K2 is essential for bone (and perhaps cardiovascular) health, but we obtain K2 largely through consumption of foods that are fermented, how do we reconcile this with evolutionary considerations, i.e., do we have to argue that humans have consumed fermented foods for millions of years?

Or could the modern "need" for vitamin K2 represent nothing more than a byproduct of disturbed bowel flora that would have otherwise converted vitamin K1 in green vegetables to K2?
