In June 2009, the diameter of my descending thoracic aorta was 3.8 cm according to a CT scan. My aorta was larger than normal for a man my age.
I didn't want an operation to insert a Dacron sleeve around my aorta when the diameter eventually reached 5.5cm so I followed the recommendations in an article written by Dr. Davis.I took supplements,
went on a low carb, no wheat diet and controlled my blood pressure with medications. Prevention is better than cure. Dr.Davis had many patients who halted the growth of their aorta.I had another
CT scan in May 2010 on a different machine. The diameter was 3.8-4.0 cm (above 4.0 is an aneurysm).

Now 4.5 years after I started on my strict regimen, the maximum diameter of my descending thoracic aorta measured with a magnetic resonance angiogram is 3.5cm.
I don't know if the reduction in diameter is due to the different type of scan.I don't know why my aorta was larger than normal in the first place. Maybe it was high blood pressure,
maybe it was a high BMI, maybe it was genetics, maybe it was small LDL particles, maybe it was a combination of factors. All I know is I don't have to worry too much now.
The radiologist who wanted me to have a scan every 6 to 8 months gave me the wrong recommendation and I ignored it. I am going out to celebrate.

And that is indeed cause for celebration, Searcher!

And, to our even greater satisfaction, you "deprived" the healthcare system of another opportunity to perform a $200,000 procedure that didn't need to be performed!
