Dr. Davis, I know you advocate a wheat-free diet, but I would like to understand what the rationale is. Are wheat products bad for reasons in addition to having a high glycemic index and load? Is bread worse than a potato? Or is it just that wheat products being ubiquitous, are the biggest source of high gylcemic index foods in the typical diet? Putting it another way, is 100 grams of whole wheat spaghetti, with a glycemic index of 37 just as bad as 100 grams of white bread with a GI of 73 (both relative to glucose=100)? Have you found that wheat products raise small LDL more than an equal glycemic load of other foods? I ask this because my favorite breakfast is a cereal made up of equal parts of wheat germ, wheat bran, and oat bran, with blueberries and skim milk. Does eating this every day contribute to a bad lipoprotein profile

I’m curious about the wheat vs potato question.
