I have been having hypoglycemia for years, since I was 16 but it is really bad right now, and with the fear of having low bs I have gained 45 pounds in the last year and am now 70 pounds over weight with a recent A1C of 6.2 and a big family history of adult onset hypoglycemia converting to type 2.

I am afraid of the no and low carb approach but I am now grain free.  I have been allergic to wheat for years and have had only rice, but in the last two weeks after reading Undoctored book I have been eliminating the rice milk that I drink and also other gluten free products.

The trouble is, my sugar drops within two hours of eating, seriously! and if I am under stress or exercising it drops faster.  It never used to be this bad.  I am an active dance teacher and work in nursing and coach cheerleading, I have never had drops like this but its as if I cannot maintain.  Some mornings upon waking I have a bg in the 60’s and has dropped as low as 42 so I had been drinking rice milk to bring it up. I was drinking at least a gallon a week.  I was trying to be low carb and so this was the only carb I would have, but I think it backfired.  It seemed to increase my weight gain. And as I said I had lots of crashes so after reading the book I have been cutting out the rice milk and substituting with Berries and peaches, and occasional potatoes as well as veggies with higher carbs.  I seemed to have stabilized a little better but still HAVE to eat every 2-2.5 hours and I am worried about keeping it stable, not crashing and loosing weight.

I want to do the right thing for my body.   I tried to see an endocrine but no one will see me because I am not diabetic yet. I have tried to make an appointment with several doctors.  One accepted and then wisked me out of his office calling me a liar because at the time My AIC was 5.7 and with a finger stick my bg was 120. I had just eaten an hour before but he wouldn’t listen and told me I was just having anxiety, I never went back. I am now having anxiety because no one believes me..... I came to undoctored for help for my body, I want to live.  My question is, can I do this with hypoglycemia?  Is there any advice or help from anyone.

What I have been doing so far is eliminating grains but keeping about 6 small meals a day with 15-20 carbs each meal. If I feel hungry before meal time, and my bs is okay I don’t have carbs, I have protein or fat, like eggs and cheese or a hamburger patty or tuna.  I do Low sugar less than 10 grams per meal and no added sugar its all natural, no juice, fruit about twice a day sometimes three and then adding peas or carrots or occasional potatoes, with Brussel sprouts or asparagus. I do eat a lot hamburger, because its easy to carry patties and grab one, but also do mostly chicken, tongul tuna, salmon, and nitrate free lunch meat.  I have allergic reaction to nitrates, drinking cow’s milk, (cheese and other diary is okay) sesame, shellfish, and pecan so I stay away from these and try to do my best.

The problem I seem to have is with exercise, this is a new onset.  In the last few months I haven’t been able to sustain cardio for more than 15-20 minutes before dropping.  Also stress and waking up with low bs.

So my question is am I doing this okay, will I even out, can I do this program safely, with the little increase in carbs as needed, are there any idea’s on getting help from an endocrine?

I want so much to take care of my body and not be a diabetic and I want to loose weight, and this is the most honest, helpful program I have found and believe me I have researched and tried everything.  Weight Watchers refunded my money because of hypoglycemia, Diet Doctor teaches keto which I cannot do, I have tried just everything but when I read this book, it just made sense....

You have found the right place, if you keep at it it will get better. There is great advice to learn from here.

Dixie:

HB has a great idea. I would certainly urge you to join our next meet-up with Dr. Davis and toss the question out there.

Dixie,
Yes, it’s normal to feel bad the first couple of weeks after cutting back on carbs.  I’ve heard it called the carb withdrawal flu and I had it.

Dr Davis, thank you so much!  I have been wondering about the MCT oil a friend of mine uses it, I am happy with this information I had no idea what kind to look for... I plan to pick some up tomorrow!  Will update after I start using it.

Very nice progress, Dixie!

Just be careful: 90-100 grams carbs per day is a LOT. This would make most people pre-diabetic. More fat is the key.
