I didn’t know whether to post this in the Diet forum, diabetes forum, or what, so since my concerns are Prostate Cancer, and CAD, here i am.

For as long as i can remember, my blood glucose fasting has been over 100. And i have been testing myself for about a year and it has ranged in the morning, from 105 to 125. Whenever i see the doc, and he sees a level over 100 fasting, he runs A1C. My readings are always under 5, last one a few months ago was 4.7. When i get home from work, a few hours after lunch, its always in the 80’s, once in a while in the 70’s

To be honest with myself, my diet has sucked lately. But I’m tightening it up.
The last two days, i’ve had no added sugar, other than 1 small block (a quarter serving) of 72% cocoa dark chocolate. And minimal fruit. NO grains except for a few croutons at lunch yesterday in a salad. I thought maybe this would help get my morning BG to a reasonable level.

This morning, it was 121, when i awoke, at about 9am. i had 3 egg whites with some olive oil, along with some red, yellow and green peppers. Went to work, tested an hour later it was 132. Waited till a about 2pm, before lunch, tested and it was 104. then i had lunch - small salad of Arugula, very small amount of chick peas, olives, jalapenos, and cucumbers, with some chia seeds and olive oil. 45 MINUTES later i was down to BG of 84.

What the hell? I know about Dawn Phenomenon, from all i’ve read that refers to people with diabetes. One thing i know, is that with A1C below 5 i dont have diabetes.
There have been times when i have tested just before bedtime, and get a reading in the low 80’s. Then go to sleep and wake up 8 hours later and its over 100.

What is this? What can i do to get my morning BG down.

I am monitored for recurrence of prostate cancer, and my last 2 PSAs showed a slight rise from undetectable (which is what it should be with no prostate). AND I AM CONCERNED THAT HIGH BLOOD GLUCOSE IS FEEDING THE CANCER CELLS.

Pratoman: Crestor and niacin can raise blood glucose. My HbA1c peaked at 5.9 when I was on niacin. What dose are you taking?

So if A1C represents average sugar over a 3 month period, what is the cause of discordance with isolated BG readings? Got to be a reason.

Maybe look at a Continuous Glucose Monitor for a month.
Maybe the statin is tweaking your liver to release more sugar than it normally would.
Maybe trial stopping niacin and see how that looks after a week off it.
